So that I/they might know God’s purpose in the suffering and know how to respond and live in the midst of this suffering.
2. List out four biblical passages that deal with God’s purposes in suffering?
Job 13:15, 5:7, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, 12:7-9, Hebrews 12:6-7, 5:8, Phil 1:29
3. What is a key biblical verse that shows that God at times does not reveal his will to us.
Deuteronomy 29:29

Discuss It

  1. What other passages have you found helpful in understanding God’s purposes in suffering?
  2. What verses have brought you comfort in times of suffering?
  3. What are some of the reasons why it is not a good idea to overstay your pastoral visitation?

Apply It

  1. If you are not an elder, ask an elder if you can join him in visiting someone who is sick or shut in.
  2. If you are an elder, make a list of all the people in your church who currently sick or shut in. Is everyone being visited on a timely and regular basis? Focus on those who are not and how you can over come the obstacles in visiting them. What is your plan?
