1. Why does the speaker say that it is so important to understand biblical principles for handling conflict among the council of elders?
There will always be conflict, and it is only a question of when that conflict will happen and how you as a group of elders will handle it.
2. What are the three principles of acting in the Spirit when facing conflict?
Do not display the works of the flesh. Display the fruit of the Spirit. Display the wisdom from above.
3. What does the apostle Paul say was the reason why the Corinthians had so much conflict and were acting in such an un-Christ-like manner?
They were still of the flesh and acting in a human way, not according to the Spirit (1 Cor. 3:3-4).

Discuss It

  1. What causes an out-of-control Christian? How can you safeguard against becoming one yourself? In what specific areas or scenarios do you find that you are particularly at risk of becoming out-of-control?
  2. What is “the wisdom from above,” mentioned in James 3:17? How would a person who has this wisdom act, especially in the face of conflict?

Apply It

  1. Memorize Galatians 5:16-26 to remind you to act in the Spirit next time you face conflict.
