1. According to I Corinthians 16:14, what one ingredient should be present in all that we do?
Love should be present in all that we do.
2. What six issues could be listed in a pledge of protection for the leadership body?
a) To pray for and support each elder and their family, b) Never to gossip or slander a fellow elder, c) To always represent each other accurately without exaggeration, d) To respect all confidences, e) To foster a safe environment within the team to be able to express contrary opinions, f) To demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit when conflict arises
3. What eight particular common works of the flesh are demonstrated when elders are not led by the Spirit?
When not led by the Spirit, enmity (hostility, animosity), strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions and envy are commonly demonstrated.

  1. Why is it important for elders to move beyond simply having a business relationship?
  2. What are some benefits when elders intentionally pursue time together away from church business?
  3. Why is it important that elders care for the well-being of fellow leaders and their wives?

Apply It

  1. Survey the elders in your church and ask, “How does the love for believers show in their work as elders, beyond just saying that there is love?” Ask them for specific examples.
