1. What is one clear example that shows Galatians 3:28 does not mean an equality of men and women in all roles in the church or life?
Men and women’s roles in entering marriage are different. From the biblical perspective, men are not permitted to marry men, but women can. And vice versa.
2. What two lines of reasoning does Paul give in 2 Timothy 2:12-15 that women should not teach or have authority over men in the church?
He argues from the order of creation (man was created first) and the nature of the fall (woman was deceived, but the man was not).
3. What is the context for equality that Paul speaks about in Galatians 3:28?
Paul deals there with our vertical relationship with God as sons, and heirs of the Abrahamic promise.

Discuss It

  1. If you were to rewrite 2 Timothy 2:12-14 to make it “more clear” about limiting women in teaching and authority roles, how would you rewrite it?
  2. Why do you think Eve’s being deceived affects the woman’s role limitation in the church?
