Remember It

Contemplate these questions, then click on each question to see the answer.
1. What are some of the ideas entailed in the imagery of shepherding sheep? Name as many as you can.
Hard work, long hours, sacrifice, dangerous work, skills, love, and authority.
2. In the New Testament, why is the protecting/guarding aspect of shepherding so strongly emphasized? Elaborate on your answers.
Because the arch enemy of the church is the false teacher. Like wolves, they are always hungry and prepared to do anything possible to hunt their prey. Behind all false teaching is Satan and his demonic hosts. He is always trying to devour God’s people or to scatter them in confusion.

Discuss It

  1. Discuss why the presence of an elder among the people is so vitally important. List as many reasons as you can. Be specific.
  2. Why is feeding the flock the Word of God the first and foremost job of the elders? List several reasons for your answer.
  3. Why do you think elders often fail in the specific aspect of leading the flock of God?

Apply It
