Remember It

Contemplate these questions, then click on each question to see the answer.
1. How does butting order manifest itself in a local church?
These are situations where one wants to look better or seem more important than the other.
2. What are the causes of friction among church members?
In James 4 we read that these are because of passions that are at war within us.
3. Provide a Bible verse that gives us the assurance that in spite of 'personality' differences we are united perfectly in Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 4:16.

Discuss It

  1. What do we learn about “friction resolution" from Paul in the way he deals with Euodia and Syntyche?
  2. How can an elder put into practice the "Syzygus" role within the local church?
  3. What kinds of things cause friction with you? Small things that easily irritate you?

Apply It

  1. Describe the personalities of the elders in your church (or four active members of your church with whom you regularly interact). What do you see as their strengths, areas that can potentially cause friction?
  2. Ask three trusted friends or associates (fellow-elders, spouse, friends) to honestly evaluate your personality in terms of strengths, potential friction areas, ability to be a “Syzgus” in people’s lives. This will be very humbling, however, it can be a tremendous means for personal growth.
